Ever wonder what your visitors are doing on your website? Google Analytics is a free service that allows you to view detailed statistics on how people find your website, what pages they visit, how long they hang around for, and much more. Integrating a service such as Google Analytics into your mySportSite team website is easy:

1. Create a Google Analytics account. This can be done by visiting Google Analytics website and clicking on “Sign Up Now”. Follow the instructions given to complete the process.

2. Once you are signed in, you should see a form asking for some information about your website. The “Website URL” needs to match your website’s address, such as “www.yourteamsite.com”, and the account name should be the name of your organization/team. Once finished click “Continue”.

3. Google Analytics will ask you to agree to their terms of service before your account is created. If you agree to the terms then check the box next to “Yes” and click “Create New Account”.

4. You will now reach a page with instructions for putting a tracking code on your website. Copy the tracking code to your clipboard (highlight the text, right-click, and select “copy”).

5. Visit your mySportSite website and login as an administrator. Click the @Settings link on the left-hand navigation bar, then “Site Options”.

6. Scroll down to the bottom of the page where you should see the following box:

7. Paste your code into the box and click “Save”. That’s it!

You can now check your site’s tracking information by logging into Google Analytics at any time (it may take up to 48 hours for stats to start showing). If you require assistance with using any of Google Analytics specific features it is recommended that you contact Google support.

The summer months have brought about great change to mySportSite. mySportSite has finally entered the world of social media by joining both Twitter and Facebook. These pages were created to capitalize on everything that social networking has become. Whether it is making it easier for your questions to be answered or finding a way to get to know our customers we are in this for the long haul and will do everything possible to add to your mySportSite experience. So if you haven’t already done so, make sure you check these out and follow or like us.

To connect with clients further, on July 8 we sent out first edition of our client newsletter. This new initiative was created to form a tighter bond between our users and ourselves while at the same time providing some useful information about our platform. We are very excited about this and look forward to sending these out every 6 to 8 weeks. If you have suggestions or feedback, we’d love to hear it.

Lastly, as of July 1st the Canadian provinces of Ontario and British Columbia have implemented the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST). Customers in those provinces will now be charged HST (13% Ontario, 12% British Columbia) rather than GST.

Recent Minor Updates & Bug Fixes

Fixed small bugs in the BOLD Theme with regards to the interface. We welcome more feedback on this theme.

Updates made to the text editor. This makes editing your pages that much easier, improving our already incredibly easy user-interface.

Customize the Appearance and Width of Your Sports Team Website!

The long awaited visual options feature has at last been released. Open to all users and packages, the visual options page can be found in either your left navigation menu, or on your @settings page while logged in. Our friendly editing tool makes it possible to customize a wide variety of visual options that could previously only be setup by us for you. The width of the website may be easily changed between small fixed width, large fixed width and full screen width options. Changing the colour of any aspect of your website is now made easy with the colour wheel. More advanced users may also choose to edit the banner and background images. To do so first “Enable Banner Editing” button below your colours. This will open up the ability to edit your left banner, right banner, banner background, and site background images.

For users who do not feel as comfortable in creating their own banners mySportSite still provides the service of banner development and colour coordination for every purchased package.

In coordination with the release of these visual options we will also be releasing new themes in the coming months so stay tuned!

September has been a busy month for us, with record amounts of teams and leagues discovering the benefits of mySportSite and jumping on board our system! This has kept us very busy, but we still have a few goodies to share.

Team Sorting on Player Availability Page

For multi-team/league sites the Player Availability page can now be sorted by team. This makes finding a specific player is now easier when dealing with large amounts of players.

Volley Ball Scoring

Volleyball scoring has been changed to accept scores from all sets played. The system then automatically calculates the amount of sets each team won and which team won. This is replacing the previous scoring system where only the sets won by each team were entered. The benefits to this new scoring system are that visitors can now see the individual scores of each set. Don’t worry, old scores entered prior to this feature have not been lost!

Minor Bug Fixes and Features

Games for closed seasons no longer appear in the calendar

Fixed bug with creating and editing external menu links

Numerous small interface improvements

Another month, another set of updates! Here are the additions our development team has made for you this month!

Displaying Away Teams First

Some sports customarily display the away teams first on a game schedule page. We have added an option that can be set to display the away team before the home team. To use this option visit a Game Schedule Page and click on “Extra Options”. Then check the appropriate check box and save your changes.

Website Locking

When making large renovations or changes to a website it may be desirable to block the whole site from the public. This can now be done easily by visiting your @settings->Site Options and using the “Lock Site” feature. This will lock the site from all visitors, but will still allow you to log in and edit your website.

Minor Updates and Bug Fixes

More pages are re-nameable from the Page Names & Security page.

Calculation of baseball stats changed to be more accurate.

More terms can be now used to define a player as a Goalie/Keeper.

“Add new outside team” field is now on the top of the page rather then the bottom.

Outside teams page now by default sets focus to the “new team” box.

A Brand New Look for mySportSite

We have been hard at work the past year defining a lot of important details about the future of mySportSite. What we want the brand to represent, how we best deliver value to our customers, and how we can march on forward with an excellent product that meets the needs of sports teams and other sports organizations. Part of the resulting work has been a fresh look for the company, including a new logo, a slogan we feel represents the product, and of course, a brand new design for mysportsite.com

A Brand New Manual

mySportSite functionality and features have expanded a lot over the past two years. Unfortunately the old manual didn’t always keep up with these changes and was missing a lot of information. We have completed a total rewrite of the user manual and integrated it directly into the website. You can now visit it from the @Manual link on the navigation bar when you are logged into your website. It takes you through everything you need to know step-by-step, and always has lots of illustrations to help you along the way.

Webmaster Playbook

This experimental features aims to help our users get familiar with mySportSite more quickly, and makes it clear what major things a team, league, or association may wish to get setup on their website. The playbook appears whenever an administrator logs in, and can also be accessed from the top navigation menu of your site. We hope this feature is useful, and we welcome your feedback on it (feel free to comment on this blog post!).

Master Calendar View

Calendars can now be set to display games from all schedules. To enable this feature on any calendar simply visit the desired calendar while logged in with edit privileges and click the “Enable show games from all schedules for this calendar button”. If this feature is currently enabled then a “Disable” button will be displayed instead. This feature can be useful to have a centralized source too view all games if you currently have multiple schedules directing to multiple calendars.

Minor Bugs and Fixes

New editor now supports Marquees

New editor now supports Iframes

Additional Help notes added to pages with the new editor

New Editor!

mySportSite stands for EASY and POWERFUL, and we are constantly looking at ways to make this ring loud and clear with everyone that uses it. With the latest release of our sports team system, editing pages, news, and other content with formatting capabilities has become even easier! We have introduced a brand-new editor that provides even more functionality and browser compatibility. You can now edit your pages in Safari and Internet Explorer 8 along with all previously supported browser, and make use of new capabilities such as an easy-to-use YouTube video button.

With the new editor some functionality may be in a different place or may work a little differently. Please take time to familiarize yourself with the new layout and feel free to contact support with suggestions or bug reports! We will be tweaking the editor over the next few months and appreciate the feedback.

Divisional Wins Column

A new column has been added to the team standings page for League sites. This column calculates the divisional wins of the teams (divisional wins are games won against other teams in the same division as that team). Divisional wins are often used as tie breakers. This column is disabled by default, but you can enable it from your Team page in “Extra Options”.

Improved Statistics Paging

Organizations with many players will notice that the players statistics are separated onto multiple pages. How many appear per page can now be controlled from the statistics page in “Extra Options”. This can be set to 25, 50, 75 or 100 (the default is 25).

Minor Updates and Bug Fixes

When adding to a team roster, the list of players and staff is now better organized.

Fixed glitch in calculating games played in soccer.

GA for rotating goalies now calculates accurately.

“Swimmer” replaces the word “Player” for swim sites.

Tweaks to instructions and editing interface on various pages.

Stay tuned for more major updates over the coming months and thanks for using mySportSite!
